The visiting to Yokota AB of Teikyo University students was supported as part of PR activities related on Japan-U.S. security issue based on JAAGA's year plot. It's was 4 hours visit on 18th Dec .2003 from 10a.m. to 3p.m. The entry was a total of 32 persons, Professor Shikata and 28 students from Teikyo University and 3 secretariats from JAAGA, Okamoto, Ochi, and Hachiya. It gathered at the Fussa station at 9:40 a.m. on the day. They moved to the headquarters of U.S. Armed Forces in Japan (USFJ) by USAF bus, had a courtesy visit to Gen. Larsen, and were present to the command briefing about U.S. Armed Forces in Japan by Maj.Gen. Larsen (Vice Commander of USFJ, Marine Corps). Students carried out positively the questions about the international situation related on their special fields of study in friendly atmosphere. Gen. Larsen who knows well about Japan and has school experience in National Institute for Defense Studies of Japan, was exactly answered to those questions after understanding the keystone and intention of their questions well. At lunch time Gen. Larsen invited the students to luncheon at the officers club. Afternoon, they attended the command briefing about Yokota AB which was specially scheduled for students, took a bus to observe the main facilities of Yokota AB, and visited US Force's broadcasting station (AFN:Armed Forces Network). It seemed that most was a thing with inexperience, and the visiting to U.S. base fully deepened an understanding about the necessity for students while showing a serious interest to the substantial military facilities, the support facilities include housing and the vast acreage including a runway etc. Moreover, the visit of an AFN greatly evoked the interest over this broadcasting system of students. Although it could not say that the students' sufficient understanding was completed about the mission, organization etc of U.S. Forces which students experience for the first time. They could recognize about U.S. Armed Forces in Japan and Yokota AB. It was just before ASDF deployment in Iraq, the Professor Shikata was very busy also. We felt deep impression that the Professor explained comments and advised about many issues to students during whole visiting.
