Special Olympics in Misawa was carried out on 22nd September at Misawa Air Base. JAAGA donated money and sent JAAGA officers to this event. Main venue was 949th hangar near west end of runway. 29 students who live in dormitory of "Mominoki Gakuen" located in Hichinohe of Aomori Prefecture, were invited to this Olympics. After opening declaration by Colonel O'Shaughnessy (base commander), athletic competitions were started. Events were 50 and 75 meters races, bowling, Frisbee throwing, soccer-ball kick and other. Three or four supporters assisted to one athlete. Whenever competition was over, each athlete received ribbon and wore it on chest and seemed to be satisfied. The members of Misawa AB drum club played at venue for cheering them up. All athletes received medals by Col.O'Shaughnessy and Col.George (commander of 35th Maintenance Group) at commendation ceremony which was held after taking lunch. Then all events were smoothly ended. Mr.Yamamoto, secretary of JAAGA Misawa, supported this event as interpreter. Also he made various form balloons and presented them to athletes and others.
