On 24th July, Kadena Special Olympics was carried out in Okinawa where the end of rainy season was announced. The opening ceremony was started with marching by players and volunteers. The players cheerfully marched under burning sunlight.
Deputy governor of Okinawa, Ambassador extraordinary, Commander of U.S. Marine Corps in Okinawa, Commander of 83th Air Wing(JASDF), the mayors of neighborhood, and the chairperson of Japan Special Olympics Committee attended to this event as distinguished guests. And Mr.Thane A.Camus, the famous TV personality in Japan, participated as special guest. This program which was established to deepen the friendship between the peoples of Okinawa and the peoples of Kadena AB 8 years ago, and this program has prospered every years as Brig.General William ( the commander of 18th Wing ) pointed. I think that it is very significant to get together and to exchange each others though doing sports and exhibition of art works for the handicapped persons.
Though we had very heavy rain shower in the middle of Olympics, all scheduled events were safely completed. I hope that many handicapped persons will get together and will spend wonderful day next year.
