JAAGA carried out the presentation ceremony of JAAGA Award 2010 in Kanto
Area at JASDF Iruma Air Base on 10 (Thu.) Feb.. It's 13rd since the award
system was established in 1998. The ceremony was held in Iruma-Inn, and
the reception was held in Second Airmen Club. Maj.Gen. Yoshikawa (commander
of 4th Air Depot), Maj.Gen. Kokubu (commander of Central Aircraft Warning
and Control Wing, and Iruma AB) and 16 JASDF airmen, Col.Christopher S.
Mardis (commander of 374 Maintenance Group) and 9 USAF airmen participated
in this event. Mr.Ogino (vice president of Iruma Kohyukai), Mr.Arahata
(president of Iruma Youth Association) and Mr.Toyoda (chairman of Iruma
AB Retiree Employment Council ) were invited as distinguished guests . And
Tsumagari JAAGA president and 4 JAAGA officers attended. The ceremony was
started with national anthem of the United States and Japan performed by
ZOOT36J (Iruma AB light music club), then president Tsumagari had opening
address, explained about the importance of JAAGA activities, expressed
the appreciation on supporting to JAAGA for 15 years since establishing,
and showed special thanks to Iruma AB airmen who cooperated with this event.
Warrant Officer Michiaki Kumoyama (Air Defense Operation Group, Fuchu
AB), C.M.Srg. Noriyuki Maeda (Program Management Group, Iruma AB), C.M.Srg.
Hiroshi Kobayashi (4th Air Depot, Iruma AB) from JASDF and M.Sgt. Brian
A.Cantrell (374 Maintenance Group, Yokota AB) from USAF were awarded this
year. Noteworthy is that two airmen were recommended as winner, then JAAGA
decided to award two airmen this year as considering base size of Iruma
AB. Their achievement on positive contribution to US-JAPAN exchange programs
are recognized.
President Tsumagari handed the letters of award to the winners and the
plaques to their wives while honoring their achievements. Col.Christopher
did thank for JAAGA activity and pointed "It is important to mutually
respect others, and NCOs of JASDF and USAF are doing well and supporting
one another now. The winners have played that role well very much. Gen.Kokubu
expressed congratulations to the winners, and added "Today we are
in severe security environment, and Japan and US security has stepped up
for the next 50 years, so to build the trust more between US and Japan
is vital important." At the reception after ceremony, Mr.Ogino said
congratulations to the winners and took a toast. After then, 4 winners
had speech. They all said that they were very glad to be able to engage
the US-Japan exchange programs, and expressed appreciation words to those
around, and they would like to positively keep their effort for the interchange
between US and Japan depending on their positions.
In conclusion, JAAGA secretariat Toda made a speech of thanks for the
award ceremony and took a closing toast. We would like to thank to all
Yokota and Iruma AB staffs who actively supporting this event. (reported
