On 5th February 2010, JAAGA carried out JFY2009 JAAGA Award presentation
ceremony and reception at JASDF Naha Air Base. JFY2009 Award is 12nd since
JAAGA formulated this institution in 1998.
Award presentation ceremony and reception was held at Naha Airmen Club
"Blue Coral" at Naha AB.. Two award winners accompanying with
spouses, Lt.Gen.Hirata (SWCAD/CC), Maj.Gen. Miyagawa (83AG/CC) and 11 members,
Brig.Gen. Wilsbach (18W/CC) and 6 airmen, Mr.Yamagata (Secretary of Okinawa
Defense Association), Vice president Isakawa and 2 members (Naha AB Support
Association) were invited. From JAAGA, president Toutake, secretary Natomi
(Naha branch) and 2 JAAGA member participated in. Total number of participants
was 26. The Ceremony was started with performance of national anthem by
SWCAD Band. President Toutake explained the purpose of JAAGA in the opening
speech, and expressed special appreciation to Naha AB officials who had
supported to set up this ceremony.
Winners of JFY2009 are MSgt. Hiroki Kumasaka and MSgt. Dennis O'Grady. MSgt.
Kumasaka is member of Naha Rescue Squadron (JASDF), and contributed to
arrange Cope Angel (Air Rescue Exercise) between JASDF Naha Rescue Sq.
and USAF 31st and 33rd Air Rescue Sq.. MSgt. O'Grady is airman of 18th
Equipment Maintenance Sq., actively fostered training and cultural exchange
program between JASDF and USAF. President Toutake gave the awards to winners,
handed memorial plaques to their wives and praised their achievement.
Gen.Wilsbach and Gen.Miyagawa delivered congratulatory address for the
winners, pointed the importance of improvement of friendship and relationship
of mutual trust between Japan and United States.
At the reception held after the ceremony, Mr.Yamamagata had congratulatory
speech and proposed a toast. Then we enjoyed opening barrel event, beating
drum performance by Naha AB Drum Club and talisman lion dancing During
this reception, two winners had speech, and they expressed their proud
of receiving award and thanks for their wives support.
We could successfully hold JAAGA award presentation of Okinawa area,
we deeply appreciate to airmen of Naha and Kadena for active support to
this presentation event in spite of their duties. (reported by secretariat
