JAAGA which was established on 5th July 1996, has contributed to improve
mutual understanding and friendship between Japan Air Self Defense Force
and United States Air Force in Japan and to contribute to our country's
security through various projects with devotion by successive presidents,
secretariats and members. This time we greeted 10th anniversary, and held
commemorative events at Grand Hill Ichigaya on 11st July 2006. Senior Vice
Minister for Defense, Diet members, members of Ministry of Foreign Affairs,
members of Defense Agency, JASDF and USAFJ members and other distinguished
guests were invited. About 120 JAAGA members participated to anniversary
events. This year is turning point for JAAGA since organization, we planed
10th anniversary events to confirm results of our activities in order to
develop JAAGA more, to reinforce solidarity of all members, and to improve
understanding our activities by persons concerned. Events were memorial
lecture, presentation of letter of appreciation, memorial reception and
defense contractors' exhibition by associate members.(Click linked parts

Memorial Lecture
The lecturer was General Myers, 15th Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff
of USA and JAAGA honorary member, and lecture title was "The Threat
from Violent Extremism – WWX". Members of JAAGA, Defense Agency, JASDF
and USAFJ, totally 250 persons participated. Rich experience, especially
since 9.11, gave audiences hint and suggestion for considering on Japan-US
relation and international affair. Abundant topic and humor by Gen.Myers
made participants feel one hour too short. Marvelous lecture. Next day,
General Myers had lecture at forum of JIIA (The Japan Institute of International Affairs) which is leaded by Mr.Ikuo Satoh (former Japan's Permanent Representative
and chief of mission to the United Nations ) Lecture subject was "World
Security Environment".
The letter of thanks presentation
JAAGA president presented letter of appreciation and memento to four
peoples and 3 corporation who has particularly contributed to JAAGA activities
since JAAGA foundation. For individual, Mr.Yoshio Ishikawa, Mr.Yusuke Sakamoto,
Ms.Masako Surls and Mr.Howard Kuroda. For corporation, Kawasaki Heavy Industry,
Mitsubishi Heavy Industry and Mitsubishi Electric.
Reception
To memorial reception, Mr.Taro Kimura (Senior Vice Minister for Defense),
Gen. Tadashi Yoshida (Chief of Staffs, JASDF), Lt.Gen.Bruce Wright (USFJ/CC),
Gen.Richard Myers (guest lecturer, 15th CJCS), Adm.Yasumasa Yamamoto (president
of JANAFA), Gen.Sigeru Sugiyama (president, Shinsei-Tsubasakai) , Mr.Yukio
Satoh (president, Japan Institute of International Affairs) and many distinguished
guests from Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Defense Agency (included JASDF)
and USAFJ attended. Totally 300 peoples participated. At opening of reception,
national anthem of Japan and USA were sounded. JAAGA president Takegochi
had opening speech, then Mr.Kimura, Gen.Yoshida, Lt.Gen.Wright and Gen.Myers
had congratulatory address. Party was started with leading of toast by
Gen.Sugiyama, and congratulatory telegram from Mr.Nukaga,Minister of Defense,
was introduced. In middle of party, JASDF Central Band mambers performed
Japanese and American popular songs. Pleasant time flew so fast, reception
was over with closing toast by vice president Toshikatu Yamaguchi at 8:30pm
.
Company exhibition
Nineteen associate companies exhibited products and panels which introduced
their products and activities. A company displayed newest combat aircraft
models, a company demonstrated a computer software, a company hand out
brochure. It was first trial for JAAGA, participated companies exhibited
with every effort, so exhibition hall looks too cramped. Many JASDF members
from Ichigaya AB visited this exhibition and observed with interesting. It's
very successful exhibition!
We believe that participants to 10th anniversary event could understand
more deeply on JAAGA roles and activities. Also we are convinced that event
