On 25th and 26th August, Japanese-American Friendship Festival was carried
out at Yokota Air Base. At flight line of Yokota AB, many kind of aircrafts
of U.S. Forces and Japan Self Defense Forces. And beating Japanese drums,
dancing of Eisa (Okinawa) and Soran (Hokkaido), playing by rock'n'roll
group and PACAF band were performed on indoor and outdoor stages. Because
of good weather, many Japanese community members visited Yokota AB to learn
more about Yokota AB and U.S. military. Colonel John F.Newell (commander
of Yokota AB. and 374th Airlift Wing) held reception at Yokota NCO Club
from 1:00 P.M. of 25th Aug, JAAGA secretariat Okamura and Minamoto, and
regular member Mr.Yamaoka and Ishikawa participated to it. Col.Newell said,
"It is an excellent way for our military members and their families
to learn more about Japanese culture and, more importantly, to build personal
and professional relationships with our Japanese friends and neighbors". During
reception, Yokota AB Friendship Clubs, local governors, JASDF commanders
of Iruma and Fuchu AB and many distinguished guests were introduced. Surprisingly
JAAGA was introduced first. Reception was over in about 1 hour, we left
the base while thanking a heartwarming service of Col. & Mrs. Newell
and peoples of Yokota AB. (reported by secretariat Minamoto)
