Air Defense Exercise "Red Flag Alaska 2007-3" was performed at Eielson AFB and Elmendorf AFB (located in Alaska State) and over Alaskan aerospace from 12nd to 27th July. Air Forces of United States, NATO and Japan participated. Japan Air Self Defense Force sent temporary organized unit to it. Colonel Tanaka (commander of Flight Group of 7th Wing) was assigned as unit commander and about 200 airmen were dispatched there. And six F-15J/DJs (7th Wing), one E-767 (Airborne Early Warning Group) and six portable SAMs (training equipments from 8th Wing) were deployed. The exercise was reduced little with bad weather condition, but the coordinated air defense exercise with USAF was almost carried out as scheduled. The peculiarity of this year's exercise is that USAF aggressor unit participated. During this exercise, JASDF and USAF airmen could improve their mutual understanding and establish their mutual trust through many kinds of activities. Encourage money which was presented by JAAGA, was handed to Col.Tanaka by Maj.Gen.Nakajima who visited Alaska to observe this exercise.
