Associate members visited Misawa Air Base on 28th and 29th Nov.. Mr.Kensuke
Yuri, group leader (IHI), 13 peoples of corporative members and 5 individual
members, totally 19 peoples took part in this tour. Secretariat Nara and
four secretariats from JAAGA headquarters accompanied with them, and Mr.Ozawa
(head of JAAGA Misawa branch) and Mr.Yamamoto (secretary, Misawa branch)
joined us in Misawa. We couldn't use JASDF C-1 flight this time with difference
as usual year, so we had to move separately to Misawa and gathered at JR
Misawa station at 12:30p.m. on 28 Nov.. As result of detailed adjustment
by secretariat Arai, we could assemble at scheduled time.
After courtesy visit to Maj.Gen. Uchida, vice commander of Northern Air
Defense Force (NADF), we received command briefing about NADF by him at
headquarters. After then, we moved to 3rd Wing (3Wg) headquarters, had
courtesy visit to Maj.Gen. Wakabayashi (commander of 3Wg) and attended
lecturer about 3Wg and Misawa AB. After this, we made field trip to see
F-2s demonstration scramble at alert area, control tower and RAPCON of
Misawa Air Traffic Control Squadron, E-2C of Air Borne Early Warning Group. Participants
realized situation of air defense front. We checked in VOQ (USAF hotel). From
6:00 p.m., we held dinner party at Misawa Officers Club and invited Colonel
Malone, vice commander of 35th Fighter Wing (35FW), and VIPs of USAF, Captain
Rush, commanding officer of United States Navy Air Facility, Maj.Gen. Uchida,
Maj.Gen. Wakabayashi and VIPs of JASDF. Unfortunately Colonel O'Shaughnessy,
commander of 35FW, didn't join because of business trip. At dinner party,
secretariat Yamamoto (toast master), delightfully leaded party like as
requesting to Mr.Yuri and youngest member Ogata (IHI Aerospace Corp.) to
have English speech. We enjoyed good meal and conversation. JAAGA members
were out to downtown Misawa after party, we opened 2nd party there. Secretariat
Yamamoto and Nara led this party, we had question & answer time and
promoted better understanding on JAAGA activities.
Next day started with power breakfast with USAF members. We received
briefing about 35FW at headquarters, then moved to see F-16 fighter aircraft,
munition, missile and testing F110 engine with afterburner torching. And
we were guided to base facilities on bus included chapel, welfare facilities. Col.Malane
escorted with us during bus tour. After finishing of USAF induction, we
had luncheon with Lt.Gen.Irisawa (NADF commander) and JASDF VIPs, there
Mr.Hohashi (vice leader, individual associate member) expressed appreciation
on JASDF's support to this program.
All members could understand about situation of USAF's and JASDF's units
at Misawa air base, and deepen friendship with USAF members. We appreciate
USAF and JASDF about supporting to this JAAGA program. Album (No.1, No2) on this tour was provided by Mr.Sakai. (Reported by secretariat Kensai
