JASDF participated multinational air exercise " 2005 Cooperative Cope Thunder" from 25th May to 1st July. Exercise over Alaskan air was conducted by USAF in very realistic aerospace environment. Last year, JASDF deployed F-15s and E-767 to '04 Cope Thunder under USAF's support for the first time. The JASDF's aiming of this exercise is to improve JASDF air defense skill and JASDF and USAF cooperation capabilities. Main unit deployed on 31st May, six F-15s of Chitose AB and E-767 of Hamamatsu AB took off for Alaska on 2nd June. The base to deploy was Eielson AFB in Alaska. On route to there, JASDF F-15s received mid-air refuel from USAF tankers.
  On 13rd Jun., secretariat Iwasaki visited Lt.Gen.Tabogami, ADC/CC, at Huchu AB and handed encouraging money from JAAGA to Cope Thunder Unit as usual year. Iwasaki explained JAAGA encouraging program to Gen.Tabogami. It was handed to unit commander by Maj.Gen.Iwakiri (Director of Defense & Operations Div., ADC) who visited Alaska to inspect unit. JAAGA received courteous appreciation letter from unit commander, Col.Tadashi Miyagawa. (Reported by secretariat Iwasaki).
