On 30th April 2004, 2nd "Japanese Culture Day" was carried out at Yokota Air Base. Secretariat Ochi was invited to this event. Event was for Americans living around Yokota AB to understand Japanese tradition and culture through various exhibitions. Sumo, Kendoh(Swordship), Judo, Karate and Iai(art of drawing sword) were demonstrated. Also Tsugaru-Syamisen(Tsugaru is area of Aomori-prefecture, Syamisen is a kind of guitar), Taiko(Japanese drum) and Japanese dancing were performed by Japanese. The audiences enjoyed them and understand Japanese culture, I think. "Japanese Culture Day" was suggested by Col.Schissler, commander of Yokota AB, who had great knowledge of Japanese culture. His speech with fluent Japanese at opening ceremony was very impressive. (Reported by secretariat Ochi)
